Common Table (a MN State Fair Exhibit)

Partner Organizations: The Common Table
AIGA Minnesota Design for Good

The Common Table is a growing network that includes members of the food community and designers working to promote local food in Minnesota. We believe that conversation inspires collaboration, new ideas, and actions that lead to a more holistic, just, and sustainable food system for buying, selling, eating, producing and preparing food. Through community meetings, storytelling, and exhibit design, we share new ideas and form new partnerships to prove that new ways of thinking about food is possible and sets the foundation for a broader understanding of our relationship with food.

My two focus areas for this year’s theme were Reduce Food Waste and Promote Food Justice. I worked with a group of designers to make these topics easy to understand and remember once fair-goers are back at home. With Minnesota’s State Fair attendance of 1.8 million in 2015, this exhibit was a great way to get our message to the masses. Even the smallest steps can make a big difference on the local community and the environment as a whole, we want people to know that they don’t have to change their entire lifestyle and just making or breaking habits can have an impact.
